Hey everyone, I’m Ayxan Solongo aka Arden Skye aka TimeFliesAway, a shapeshifter traveling through the multiverse.
In this story, I’ve got a glimpse of Olive and Taylor and their blossoming relationship.
At first, I was co-experiencing each of their daily routines – Olive’s chaotic mornings, constantly being late to work (a creative soul whom I could relate to well), and Taylor’s structured days at the office as a boss. Although Taylor has the vibe of being the “perfect boss”, the few glimpses I got weren’t true of what she told me – rather very lonely, always looking to chat with her coworker and friend, still kind of shaken up from her last breakup. And the fight with her parents, who contact her after a while and that’s where the lie starts.
I found the reason quite realistic but the way it was set up with the newspaper maybe a little … forced. A cute idea but some aspects weren’t necessary.
Before the main pair meets though, Taylor “asks” a few women on a dating app out, and that’s where I had to cringe quite a bit. There was one black woman and one fat woman – at first I was like, oh nice, good to see some variety. However … both of them had really odd personalities. There was another light skinned woman, realtively normal looking by societal standards, who also didn’t have the best personality, but the two worst ones were the two diverse women. In my opinion they were actually quite interesting – and I know the universe didn’t want Taylor to like them, but did it have to be that extreme? That’s the part that felt forced the most. Why the only two different looking women, too? I mean, it wasn’t at least the only fat person/woman in the story, so at least I can say it’s not fatphobia, but I can’t argue for the racism.
Apart from that though, I did like it. Olive is a very fun personality to be around, and she made the whole “fake dating” incredibly believable. I loved how chill and open she was, and how relatively natural their connection felt. Albeit I still feel like I don’t really know much about Olive, while Taylor seemed like an open book, despite her having the tendency to shut people out and Olive not having any locked doors.
What I also liked was the family dinner with the aunts and uncles, although being super cliche, it just felt realistic. And the “5 dating ideas for xmas” article, the way it was both subtle foreshadowing and a light bulb moment at the end.
On this earth, it’s a normal-length movie with the title ‘Looking for her’ and came out in 2022. You can watch the entire film for free on Youtube:
