Hey everyone, I’m Ayxan Solongo aka Arden Skye aka TimeFliesAway, a shapeshifter traveling through the multiverse.
In this story, I first meet Kady, a youngster sitting at their computer. Its battery is about to run out, which Kady annoys. Kady’s grandma then let’s Kady know that she’s gonna go to the bank now, asking whether Kady wants to tag along. In the car, Kady asks her questions on why the computer’s battery runs out so quickly, why the battery’s prices went up and how money and energy is tied together. Half way there, we see an ATM with a “power bank” sign, and check it out. After logging in, a computer voice greets us and then explains what this bank is about.
I found myself very annoyed at first that it went to Bitcoin. (Though I see now how it’s hinted in the title, heh.) Thinking, “oof, don’t tell me this is an ad for Bitcoin!”. In the last years Bitcoin has become popular, all I got from it, is that scamming and losing the coins is far easier than with traditional money.
Though I continued listening to the computer voice, and glad I did.
Especially when it mentioned it’s open-source and decentralized, it got me hooked. Recently, I joined the Fediverse, a decentralized social media and also open-source. I’ve only been there for a month, but like it far better than the exclusive/centralized network, such as Instagram, TikTok, etc.
It was also mentioned it’s better for the environment. I also appreciate that they talked about the state of Earth’s ocean, albeit it was short. As an environmentalist, I technically should be in favor of nature-friendly money*, especially since traditional paper and coin money totally isn’t good. Yet, I’ve always found digital currencies very icky …
(*: Personally, though, I’m much more in favor of trading items. I’ve always believed that to be the best solution, both for the environment and consumerism.)
Well, with all I’ve learned today through this short conversation, I’ll definitely go and research more about the topic.
I also liked the appearance of the world. Quite simple-ish, but the abstraction fits the topic. And the colored speech bubbles helped a lot, too.
