Strange World (2022) – Movie Review

It was AWESOME!!

I have lost faith in Disney the last couple of years, especially with all the live-action remakes, but this… if they continue to make movies like this, they’re definitely headed into a better future!

I’m so sad I couldn’t see this in the theaters. I’m sure it would’ve been absolutely incredible to see this in 3D!!

And really, that is Disney’s fault. If they had better marketed it, and especially made a better trailer, I would’ve totally gone to the cinemas! But no – they’re really pulling another Treasure Planet on this. Smh.

It’s so good though. Definitely one of my favorite Disney movies of all time.

And definitely one of the best – wait, actually probably THE BEST – Disney couple in all history. I mean – healthy hetero?? The only couple that’s somewhat close is Kristanna (Frozen) and Eugenzel (Tangled), although the latter still has their toxic moments. But Ethan’s parents? Damn! They’re definitely the top #1 healthiest hetero couple in the whole Disney movie history, and probably even beyond.

Not only that, but also everyone is equal. Women aren’t treated like an object only used for making babies – they’re at the same level as men. Dark-skinned people aren’t slaves to white people – they’re at the same level.
(Yeah, I know that’s not the case anymore. Women do have rights nowadays and so have non-white people. It was an exaggeration, but not a joke – everyone’s still a rank below white men in our world.)

Everyone and everything is the same level. Isn’t that amazing?? That is a world I want to live in. A world I’d fight for.

Apart from that, I also really like how this applies to our current world situation. Climate change, war, and earth dying. Earth might not be at the point like the planet* was in the movie, and let’s hope it never will, but it is going into that direction if we keep treating it like that.

(*: It’s not entirely a planet, but I won’t spoiler.)

Overall, how the movie handled the problems with their environment dying is really amazing. This should be shown in school. 💯

The writing isn’t that good though, well, at least it could’ve been improved. I’m happy for the healthy representation (especially when it comes to being queer) and that was handled very well story- and character-wise. However, when it comes to the actual plot, it was yet a bit weak, and kind of forgettable.

It’s an important message for sure, with wonderful animation and fun character designs, but fails to really grab the attention of the audience. Unlike Treasure Planet. Very unfortunate, though still worth to watch at least once. I recommend it a lot.
