Vampire After the Doomsday – GL Manga Review

Volume 1 and 2 covers of "Vampire after the Doomsday"

Vampire After the Doomsday or in Japanese 道割草物語 (Michiwarikusa Monogatari) is a 2-volume GL Manga by Takekawa Shin. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, where only vampires and some animals have survived. A slice-of-life story of four vampire women, who are two couples, living together in a mansion.

My opinion

As it hasn’t been translated from chapter 6 on, I had to read the raws with a translator, which can be quite tiring. And confusing, because it doesn’t translate everything.

It was interesting though. Especially because I haven’t seen the combination: post-apocalypse and vampires. And vampire/dystopian GL already is rare!

The first volume starts slow, very slice-of-life genre-like.
Chapter 5 introduces more characters and gets things going, explaining the lore as well.
Chapter 6 and volume 2 occasionally had a lot of info dumps through dialogue, so that was confusing with Google Translator. I found the tournament plot in volume 2 a bit too much time consuming and would’ve liked more lore instead. From what I understood, it was intriguing, but I still have a lot of unanswered questions. I do hope it gets an official translation someday!

It’s mostly a female-only cast (keeping it true to the yuri genre lol), though it’s explained why. A male character does make an appearance in volume 2. While it is mostly Yuri, fear not, it’s also actual GL, as the sapphic couples confirm many times they’re lovers, and also have official marriage art! <3
One of my most favorite scenes were the lovey-dovey moments between Rina and Misao. It’s so cute how they’re together for 200+ years and still so in-love with one another!

The art
Very detailed and leans to the realism style. The artist especially got to shine in volume 2 with all the fighting scenes! Incredible skills.

A little late, but it’s also my submission for BookGuildJune2024!
