Book Guild – January 2026

A bookmark on the left side of the book, with the Pending Plays logo at the top and "Book Guild" in vertical format below. On the right of the book it says "#17 self improvement" in a cursive, handwritten font. Photo by Patrick Hendry on Unsplash.

Happy new year, everyone in the west! Hope you slid in well! As new year’s resolutions are going around, how about we don’t just plan things, but actually start fulfilling them?

Theme: self improvement

Read and review anything that’s a book – novels, comics, mangas, graphic novels, poem collections, scripts, short stories, zines, et cetera. (Audiobooks count too, of course!).

How to take part

  • Write a review of a/multiple book/s that is/are about self improvement.
  • Post the review here on Pending Plays. (New here? Check out this page: https://pendingplays.co.uk/register-to-review/)
  • Add the tag BookGuildJanuary2026 to your post

Rules

  • Read the book in January (it can be a volume from a series you’re currently reading, but shouldn’t be a re-read).
  • Feel free to interpret the theme as you like.
    • It’s a non-fiction book about helping you with self improvement.
    • A character works on self improvement.
  • Timeframe to read and review: 1st to 31st January 2026
    • (If you happen to be busy in January, don’t worry about posting your review after the timeframe! We’re not that strict here!)

Make sure to join our Discord and get the Book Guild role, to not miss out on any announcements or other info! You can also add your read book to our reading challenge on StoryGraph.

Looking forward to your reviews!
