Volcano Princess is a choices matter, cute RPG where you play a father raising his daughter. The game goes through various life stages until she reaches 16 and leaves home.
My favourite thing about this game is the large amount of content and replayability. If anything, at 12 hours per playthrough, it could be argued there’s too much! Multiple different endings, lots of romance options, a variety of tasks and different stats without it being overwhelming and best of all, it comes in at a reasonable price tag – £5.99 on CDKeys at time of writing.

I haven’t even begun on the cute anime art style and variety of characters. It’s tempting for games with lots of choices to make them superficial but Volcano Princess does a wonderful job of making everyone distinct in both personality and backstory.
Sadly, there are a few bugs. I found that while I had the option to name my cute little princess, her default name overwrote it when battling and in a few other screens. This made the game confusing in some places although it wasn’t dreadful once I’d worked it out.
The game also relies heavily on Japanese tropes which may put off those who aren’t a fan of that distinct style. At times, I found myself cringing at how clunkily it reads! The text frequently feels like a bad translation and that lets it down.

Overall, this game has a lot of merit. For the price, there are very few games which provide this much content. Mediocre content perhaps but certainly not bad content and I very much enjoyed my first run through. I can see myself playing this a few more times and perhaps going for 100% achievements. If nothing else, it’s super cute.

The art style does look very cute, especially the neat lighting.
It doesn’t look like a battle game at all tho. Also, what does the title mean?
