The wait is finally over, and Nintendo have sprinkled a little extra magic with the official reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2! Announced during the Nintendo Direct, the beloved hybrid console is getting a gorgeous upgrade and we are here for it. With a bigger screen, dreamy graphics and shiny new features, it feels like the Switch 2 is ready to take us on an even more cozy, chaotic, and colourful adventures.
Whether you’re a longtime Nintendo sweetheart or just here for the new aesthetic, we are diving into all the exciting details – from pros and cons to the new games we are all swooning over. So grab your favourite snack, get comfortable and let’s talk about what makes the new Nintendo Switch 2 sparkle – and where it might need a little bit of extra fairy dust.
1) Lets Talk Techy Magic
All the upgrades, and what do they mean?
Nintendo didn’t just give the Switch a glow up, they gave it a pretty full on transformation. Whether you’re into casual cozy games or chaotic boss battles, these upgrades are going to make your gameplay feel smoother and prettier.
Here is what’s under the hood!
A bigger, brighter screen
The new Switch 2 features a 7.9 inch LED screen, which means more space for your favourite farm sims and JRPGs to shine. It’s not OLED (boo), but the colours still pop nicely, and the screen has a crisp 1080p resolution in handheld mode.
Cute tech trivia – The screen may not be OLED, but the new LCD panel uses a special anti-glare finish, perfect for gaming outside on sunny days. Animal crossing island picnics just got real.
Ultra Smooth Gameplay
This new beauty supports up to 120Hz refresh rate, which means animations and camera movement will be buttery smooth. Whether you’re slashing monsters or just vibing in Animal Crossing, it’s going to feel super responsive.
4k Docked Mode
When this is plugged into the TV, the Switch 2 can play games in 4k resolution. That’s a huge leap from the OG Switch’s 1080p docked mode – so your Mario adventures are about to look cinematic.
Fun Fact! While the Switch 2 supports 4k resolution docked, Nintendo added new cooling tech to keep things from overheating when things get intense (boss fights + summer heat = no sweat)
256GB of Storage (Finally!!)
More room for all of your digital games and screenshots of your villagers being cute. No more choosing between Breath of the Wild and Cozy Grove – now you can have both!
Did you know? The original Switch only had 32GB of internal storage, so the Switch 2’s 256GB is a huge glow up!
New Joy-Cons
The new magnetic Joy Cons snap on with a satisfying click, and they come with improved motion controls plus a C button for instant voice chat.

3D Audio Support
The console includes Spatial Audio tech, so sound isn’t just loud – it feels all around you. Think birds chirping in the background of your Stardew Valley farm, or dramatic boss music swirling in your ears. Cozy and immersive? Yes please!
No OLED glow up
Okay, we may have really been hoping for the vibrant colours that the OLED model gave us, but the Switch 2 stuck with an LCD screen. It’s still pretty, but… not as dreamy as it could have been.
That Price Tag Though
With the standard model priced at £395 and the bundle with Mario Kart at £429, she’s definitely not cheap, and with some games hitting £70+ – our wallets might need a nap.
Subscription stuff again?
That fancy new voice chat button is amazing.. but it’s locked behind Nintendo’s online subscription. So if you’re not into monthly fees, this could be a little annoying. (Ugh, why can’t things just be free)
Still region-locked eShop
Just a small annoyance, but the eShop still doesn’t let you freely switch between countries unless you make new accounts. No dreamy Japanese game imports for us.
Noted – Even the prettiest console can have a few clunky bits – and while none of these are total dealbreakers, they’re good to keep in mind before spending lots of money to dive in heart first.
2) Things We Love (aka – The Yay! List)
All the reasons we’re heart eyes for the Switch 2 😍😍
That Snappy Performance
Games load way faster (cya later awkward loading screens) and everything runs so smoothly!
Cute, Clicky Magnetic Joy Cons
They snap on so effortlessly, and feel good in your hands. Plus better motion control means smoother sword swings and sassier dance moves.
Built in Voice Chat
No more juggling your phone while gaming! The new “C” button connects you straight to your friends.
Backwards Capability
Your cozy library still works! Most of your existing library should play seamlessly. Although keep in mind some games such as Ring Fit Adventure would need the use of the original joy cons.
Joy Con Tip!
The magnetic Joy-Cons according to some leaks will also come in new pastel colours!!! Keep your eyes peeled for the cutest combos ever.
A soft reminder.. If you’re on a budget or already loving your Switch/OLED Switch, it’s okay to wait and see how the first wave of games and updates land!
3) Games We’re Crushing On
The line up that’s making our hearts do little pixelated flips
So, what’s a shiny new console announcement without dreamy games to fall in love with? The Nintendo Direct didn’t hold back. We got reveals, surprises and some straight up iconic moments. Here are the ones we are totally obsessed with already:
Mario Kart World
Our chaotic racing game is back, and we have open-world tracks to play with!
This one is bundled with the Switch 2, and honestly? We are already planning mushroom fueled road trips with the pals. The new map blends city vibes, rainbow highways and even pastel beach circuits – how adorable! Oh, and did we mention the character outfits are customisable now! Fashion karting is real.
Kirby: Air Raiders
Soft round boy with pink sparkles and pastel chaos.
It’s fast it’s floaty, and it’s full of sugary skies and dreamy hoverboards. The online multiplayer lets you zoom with up to 10 friends, and there’s even a photo mode to capture your cutest Kirby moments.
The Duskbloods
A little spooky, a lot beautiful. 🌅
This is FromSoftware’s new gothic action RPG – and even though it’s a bit darker than the usual vibe, we are intrigued! You play as a cursed knight trying to restore light to a haunted kingdom. Think Bloodbourne but make it magical. We’ll be wearing flower crowns while swinging swords, thanks.
Donkey Kong Bananza
He’s chunky, he’s funky, and he’s got a new jungle to explore.
This adventure platformer is giving classic DK vibes, but bigger, smoother, and way more bananas. There’s also a local 2-player co-op mode, so you and your bestie can bounce and bop your way through the jungle together,
Cozy Crossing: Homecoming (Rumored!!)
It wasn’t officially announced, but whispers of a new Animal Crossing are everywhere.
If the leaks are true, we could be looking at a soft reboot of ACNH with bigger islands, improved interiors, and seasons that change your villager outfits, Manifesting this HARD.
Which is your fave?
Drop us a comment and let us know which game you’re most excited about – we are building our gaming calendar as we speak!
4) Final Thoughts!
So… Is it worth it?
The Nintendo Switch 2 feels like the next magical chapter in our favourite gaming fairytale. It;s faster, prettier and packed with features we have been waiting forever for (Well hello there, voice chat button)! The new games? Chefs kiss. It may not be perfect (The LCD is still haunting us a little) – there is no denying that this console has some serious main-character energy.
If you’re a cozy gamer, or a chaotic racer, or just here for the aesthetics, then the Switch 2 might be your next big gaming love story. But if you’re still planning on curling up with your OG switch, that’s totally okay too! Because Nintendo magic never really goes out of style.
What about you?
