Since it was (officially) announced, Ubisoft have been keen to say that the latest game in the series, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, is the return of the more traditional Assassin’s Creed experience. That being said, this is only the next mainline entry, with a mobile entry, Jade, also being developed. Narrative Director of Mirage recently told Eurogamer:
“I think the most accurate comparison would be Rogue or Revelations, in terms of scope. We also wanted to go back to what Assassin’s Creed was in terms of story structure in the very early games, which means that it’s linear. You have a beginning, you have an end, and it’s a character’s evolution.”
As someone who has played pretty much every entry in the franchise, I get definitely see where the thought to ground the latest entry comes from. My personal opinion of the latest entries, is that whilst they were entertaining, there was a LOT of bloat for what is a character driven narrative. This often meant I lost my way in the story and found myself forgetting certain events had happened as I was off chasing numerous side quests to level up and grind.
