Gaming means a lot to so many of us, and for many of us enjoy attach this art to our bodies through the form of tattoos. Myself, I’ve got a number of tattoos, with many of them relating to games. One game series in particular is a big theme in mine. That being Resident Evil of course! For me, this symbolizes a lot for me, as the original Resident Evil 2 brought my family together as we gathered in the living room to work through it together, remembering safe codes and where we needed to go.
So I went out and asked the question “Do you have a tattoo related to a game? Why have you had that particular game tattooed?”
This one here is one of my favourites that I have tattooed, which was done by the wonderful Pumpkinbloodtatoos at the Cult of the Sphynx tattoo studio. You can take a look at their work on their Instagram page.
This design is again based on Resident Evil, however it also incorporates the fact I am Type 1 Diabetic, merging two of the most important things about me in to one, beautiful design!
Here’s TheHellMouth_ with their favourite, Bloodborne. It’s not their only one either, with Dead Space, Tomb Raider and Silent Hill tattoos as part of their collection. All of these were done by Kiri Henday, who you can find here!
As a game I haven’t played (well I attempted and gave up), I’m advised these are Shadows of Yharnam, alongside the Hunters Mark.
Tiggs has a whole sleeve dedicated to gaming and the like, featuring characters from some of their favourite franchises. These were all designed by Nathan Boon based in Manchester, UK.
Tiggs offered this explanation of their artwork:
“Kingdom hearts was the first one he did for me. That game has been so important in my life. I have had depression and anxiety from an early age. I was a deep thought person about life and how we are all connected. It gave words to some of the ideologies that I had and also helped me to see that everyone faces darkness and inside there is a light… no matter how faint. That never goes out. I’m a big mental health advocate now. Speaking out and helping people. I do a video every year for world mental health day on YouTube and I ended my first one with may your heart be your guiding key. Final fantasy and Zelda are similar from my childhood. Being an unpopular, heavily bullied kid. These were my escape. Where I could be the hero. They showed me who I wanted to be and that in adversity you can still stand firm. If they stand behind you, protect them. If they stand beside you, respect them. If they stand against you, show no mercy.”
