Mortal Kombat 1 – That’s Some Voice Acting

I love Mortal Kombat, and ever since it was rebooted (and this is entirely my opinion) I don’t think it’s missed a step. I’m even including Ronda Rousey doing the voice acting for Sonya Blade. However, something in this latest entry hit me like a brick to the face, and it wasn’t anything gameplay related. Whilst I haven’t completed the story yet (I’m taking my time) and have put some time in to the Invasions mode, this is standing out like a sore thumb.

You have have guessed from the featured image above, but this is about the character ‘Nitara’. She’s a vampire from another realm, involved in the plot within Outworld which I won’t spoil within this article (plus I don’t know the full outcome myself yet!). Her character fits in well within the Mortal Kombat lore which has all sorts of creatures of different species and realms and abilities, so it’s no surprise to see a demon-vampire bat…thing within the game.

The problem with ‘Nitara’ for me, comes from her voice acting. You see, ‘Nitara’ is voiced by Megan Fox (yes, that Megan Fox) whose films have been less than stellar throughout her career. I’m not sure on why she was chosen for this role (maybe it’s because of that whole vial of blood thing she has going on) but the character is done dirty with this voice acting. Just take a look at this video introducing her and listen to the voice lines:

Yeah it’s not great at all, and feels insanely out of place when hearing it compared to others within the game itself. To me, it seems clunky and lack of any character, almost monotone with no delivery.

What are your thoughts on ‘Nitara’? Do you agree on the voice acting? Let me know in the comments below.
