What’s next for the MCU?

Share this:

As first reported by Deadline on Monday, Jonathan Majors is OUT of the MCU after being found guilty of assault and harassment. Whilst this has been bubbling for some time, with Loki Series 2 being the latest MCU project to feature Majors, this verdict no doubt leaves the MCU in a troubling place. This leaves a large Kang the Conqueror sized hole within the MCU that it has been building to, with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty being slated for release in the future. It looks like plans may have to change. There’s two ways I can see this going for the MCU, and we’ll explore them below.

The Rewrite

A lot of talk has been going around online about the consequences of Majors trial, and one of these is that the Kang Story Arc is about to be dropped completely. Spoilers to follow, so if you haven’t watched all of Loki Series 2, JUMP AHEAD!

SPOILER WARNING

As we saw at the end of Loki Series 2, they have left us on a bit of a cliffhanger when it comes to Kang. The TVA is now a peace keeping agency of sorts, scouring the timeline for Kang/Victor Timelys variants and purging them. Now there’s no mention of at what point in the respective timeline this happens, but should the studio choose to change course away from Kang, they could simply state the TVA as having kept controlled of the variants and purged them early in their lives. However there are a few threads such as Ant-Man and the Wasps: Quantamania variant (God what a terrible movie that was!) where the Kang variant is exiled and on the run so they couldn’t have taken him out early. Who knows!

SPOILER END

The Recast

The easiest route in my opinion would be for Marvel to recast Kang. It’s not like they haven’t recast others along the road, but this would be the most plausible option in this case, when we’re looking in to the multiverse! A variant is different to the one we’ve come to know? Simple. They’ve done it with Loki, Spider-Man and others (let’s not mention how Doctor Strange and Wanda are the same in every universe) so its easily done. Will they go down this route? I hope so. It opens up no end of more villains’ and heroes coming in to the MCU (the end of The Marvels anyone?) so seems like the no brainer route for them to go.

Those are just my two cents on this though and who knows what Kevin Feige is thinking up behind the scenes. What do you think Marvel should do with Kang? Let me know in the comments below!
