The Frog and The Water – Movie Review

PS. It’s a german movie titled ‘Der Frosch und das Wasser‘. Since TMDB added an english title, I’m assuming it’ll either get an english dub or is available to watch with english subtitles.

Seen the trailer recently and then about a week later watched it in theaters! Wasn’t disappointed.

Was amazing. Pure comedy with a really wholesome ending. <3

‘Pure’ in a sense of ‘clean’ and ‘innocent’ (not sexual-wise). Not forced; no slapstick. Everyday-like and realistic that it sometimes felt like a documentary with a few comedy moments in-between.

Although the story is quite unrealistic in some moments (or I’m thinking too bureaucratic-german, lol?), it still has a realistic feel. Definitely neat script.

The fact that Buschi (protagonist with down syndrome / trisomy) is non-verbal, is perhaps a little stereotypical, but also results in watchers to focus more on body language. Additionally, there’s a language barrier between him and Kitamura (a Japanese) anyway. (And Kitamura is also a quiet person.)

Really liked the japanese travel group. Also a bit stereotypical but very friendly portrayed. I loved Buschi’s interactions with them. (It’s also very wild to me how he ended up with them and that they let him stick to them. Implies that Buschi knows some japanese (vocabulary/culture), and makes me curious whether he has a backstory with Japan of sorts. I’d totally watch a sequel/prequel!)

And the traveling put me into a roadtrip-mood.
