Damn Exam – Game Review

Share this:

Imagine being a teacher having to watch the most troublesome classes take tests over five days, were every day the students come up with new ways to try and cheat. Well this describes the game to a tee!

This game starts quite simple. You are a teacher supervising pupils taking an exam, but every pupil will try to cheat at some point, so you have to fail them only when they do. Now, that sounds easy, right? Oh, you are so wrong. After the first phase, new pupils arrive, and that means that they will have new ways to cheat. This is when the game got difficult. It starts off with only one type of pupil who you can easily see is cheating when they lean to the side, but then another type gets added and they do something different, and then another gets added… and then another… oh, and one more after that! Yep, by the end of the game you have been introduced to 5 different types of mischievous students.

How difficult could this be?

So, as I’ve mentioned, there are five different types of students that you have to face. Each student does something different in order to cheat.

Since I don’t want to spoil the game for you, I won’t tell you what these students do, but I will bring up something that had me really confused. So, for one of the pupils you can’t really know if they’re cheating unless you use a camera. Yes. A camera. Not one that you hold, no. One that you have installed yourself! That has to be breaking some sort of law…

Aside from the chance of this breaking a law if it was real; it is an interesting and unique gameplay mechanic. I honestly loved the different ways that you had to figure out if someone was cheating. Some of the students methods were quite unique and I wouldn’t have even imagined that those were possible.

Oh, and the art! If you know anything about me, you will know that an art style that is unique will catch my eye immediately, and this game done that very well. Everything in the game looks like the art is put onto cardboard, and this was just the uniqueness that suited this game. A game with many mechanics is a perfect fit for a simple yet amusing art style to call home.

This was a quick and fun game that held my attention from start to finish. From its unique gameplay to interesting style, this game was amazing in every aspect. The time ticking at the bottom of the screen definitely scared me when it got too low and I practically begged for the remaining students to cheat so I could fail them! For a free game, this was some of the most fun I have had in a while! I would recommend this for anyone who enjoys simple yet engaging games or even someone just looking for something to spent some time playing.
